🏛️Mantua · history, flavours, activities
Mantua is a city of water and Renaissance: surrounded by the three lakes of the Mincio and built at the court of the Gonzaga family, it houses masterpieces such as the Bridal Chamber at Palazzo Ducale and the frescoes at Palazzo Te. Today, the lake system, regulated since the Middle Ages, is the heart of the Mincio Park and frames a UNESCO historic center. The flavors are genuine and local: pumpkin tortelli, risotto alla pilota, agnoli and stews, seasonal lake fish, desserts such as sbrisolona and torta delle rose, best paired with Lambrusco Mantovano or wines from the hills. Activities include art itineraries (Ducale, Sant'Andrea, Rotonda, Bibiena, Palazzo Te), slow routes on the Anello dei Laghi and the Mincio Cycle Route, boat excursions, and themed tours exploring the Renaissance, historic shops, and evenings in the piazza.
